Garage Flooring Preparations

There are many different types of garage flooring available on the market today to help protect your garage floor. Before you pick which type of garage flooring to purchase, you should consider the installation time.

There are three main types of garage flooring that are sold by most manufactures. They are interlocking tiles, epoxy paint, and roll out floors. Each one of these polished concrete Albuquerque methods requires different amounts of time and preparation for installation. The easiest method to install is definitely the interlocking tiles, followed by the roll out floor. The hardest method to install is without a doubt the epoxy coating. Before you decide on the type of garage flooring you want, you should know exactly what prep work needs to be done.

The interlocking tiles are extremely easy to install. Each tile interlocks together and you don't even need any adhesive. The tiles may even be peel and stick tiles, which may be a little more annoying to install if you mess up, but still very quick overall. Some popular companies that sell peel and stick or interlocking garage flooring tiles are Better Life Technology (BLT), Ulti-Mate, and Gladiator. All of these tiles come in twelve inch square tiles. They are made in a wide variety of colors and designs, so as you place each tile, you can add your own unique design to your floor.

The roll out garage flooring is sold in a large variety of sizes. Most often, the width ranges anywhere from seven to ten feet and the length is most often twenty feet. This type of flooring is easy to install but there are a few reasons that may make installation more difficult. Roll out garage flooring may require adhesive, depending on the brand, but if you look for the brands that don't need it, then your job will be pretty easy. All you need to do is take everything out of your garage, unroll the mat, and overlap and bump any seams if necessary. This can be considered a harder method because instead of handling small tiles, you have to worry about a large mat. If you have to make a lot of cuts and go around multiple posts or corners, then installation may be difficult. If the setup of your garage doesn't require that you make any cuts, then this method will most likely be easier and faster than tiles. It all comes down to the design and set up of your garage.

This last method is going to be a pain to install, no matter what kind of garage you have. The epoxy coating process requires endless hours of preparation followed by a lot of manual paint work. The entire installation process takes anywhere from multiple hours to several days. That is not including the one day that you can't use your garage. After that waiting period is up, you may not even be happy with your results because there are so many things that can go wrong with epoxy. First off, there can be absolutely no dirt, oil, grease, or stains on your garage flooring at all. Also, there can't be any sealants or moisture. Any of these substances can cause the epoxy to not bond with your floor, and if it doesn't bond properly then you will not be happy with the result.

If these three methods are done correctly, then your garage flooring will come out looking much better than it did before. If you are seriously considering purchasing a garage floor, then you should consider the price and preparation time required. This article gives you a good idea for the preparation requirement but you should still do some price research. There is no need to make a fast purchase that will require you to spend more than you need to.
